Rooms

The Hostal l'Argolla has four double rooms with fully-fitted bathrooms (two rooms have a hydromassage bath), TDT, WIFI, etc.

Each room has a different style, for a different time or situation, and we would like to explain the story behind each room.

STENDHAL

STENDHAL this room takes the name of Henri Beyle, who was born on the 23rd of January in 1783, in the Rue des Vieux-Jésuites in Grenoble and who wrote "The Red and the Black"; which was published in Paris in 1830, and which he signed under the literary pseudonym of STENDHAL.

The room is decorated in red and black and seeks, like the novel, to mark a turning point in the lives of those who have enjoyed it. The room itself somehow makes one recall the small town of Verrières.

Love and loss, modern and antique furniture symbolise the force of emotions which occasionally cannot be expressed without fear, what people can do along the path of a full life, white walls and blood-red lights, symbolising passion.

VOUS QUI PASSEZ SANS ME VOIR

In 1936 the singer Charles Trenet wrote the poem "Vous qui passez sans me voir", (You who pass by without noticing me), and his friend Johnny Hess set it to music. In this poem Trenet seeks the attention of the one he loves who passes him without seeing him. A wounded ego is the source of so many sad stories, yet makes us rise above everything and move on.

The first three days when we showed these rooms we found that people paid this poor little room scant attention; those first few clients who we rememberso well, preferred other rooms. During dinner on those first nights the words of the song rang out:

Vous, dont je guette un regard
Pour quelle raison ce soir passez-vous sans me voir?
Un mot, je vais le dire: Je vous aime

Give me hope tonight, why do you pass by without seeing me, or saying goodnight?
I am so sad, all I wish for is just one look, why do you pass by without seeing me, one word I wish to say I love you. Goodbye, goodnight.

Or maybe it's because you don't know what you're missing and just how beautiful this room is. It is different, a large head of silver-coloured wrought iron, a sofa in the corner, a silver shower.

One has to know how to look, as in everything. If not, you will spend your life without having lived it, without having seen its beauty.

HOLLY

This room is vibrant with the presence of Audrey Hepburn. A stairway descends from the solarium, where at any moment we might see George Peppard coming down after finishing breakfast. From the bathroom it seems as if you are immersed in those years when precious things were important. This room could only be called after Truman Capote: "Holly".

Close your eyes and listen closely and you might just hear the song "Moon River"; as you sit at the window or watch the sun rise from the terrace, memories after a party which went on until daybreak, memories of a dress you once wore...

LA BELLADONA

Belladona, or Deadly Nightshade in English, is a poisonous, yet medicinal plant surrounded by the mystery of its positive and negative effects. It grows beside pathways, attracting the attention of those who pass by.

Legend has it that a good wizard gave the flower to a sick woman who then slept for several days, and on waking explained that she had visited marvellous places. The ladies of the Italian aristocracy used its effects to appear more attractive in their society parties, often with spectacular results.

Belladonna, was the name of a house of a great friend, one which had the same energy and the same mystery, both poisonous and medicinal, echoes from those who had once passed through there.
